The Eighth Instalment In The Star Wars Saga

The Last Jedi is the second instalment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, following The Force Awakens. Released in 2017, written and directed by Rian Johnson, the American-made movie was produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

The Last Jedi follows shortly after the battle at Starkiller base. General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) is leading the Resistance forces in evacuating when the First Order arrive. They’re able to escape, with Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) counterattacking the First Order dreadnought.

Hesitant, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) offers to train Rey for three lessons but is encouraged by Yoda - now a Force ghost - to learn from his past failures with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

The Resistance attempt to infiltrate Snoke’s flagship but are captured by Captain Phasma. Kylo Ren in turn captures Rey and is ordered to execute her by Snoke. However, Kylo kills Snoke and defeats his Praetorian Guards with Rey’s assistance.

Like Rey, most audiences assume that Kylo Ren is starting to abandon the dark side and reclaim his morals. However, this isn’t the case. Ren wants Rey to join forces with him so that they can rule the galaxy together. Refusing, Rey battles for Luke’s lightsaber and escapes destruction.
