Let The Battle Begin

Released in 2017 by Epic Games, Fortnite is a popular online video game set in a post-apocalyptic world where zombies have destroyed 98% of the global population. The game pits 100 players against each other in a constantly shrinking map, with each competitor starting with nothing but a pickaxe.

The players must attempt to survive by gathering supplies, building a ‘Fort’, and figuring out how to avoid annihilation at the hands of the zombies and/or other players. One randomly selected portion of the map is deemed safe, and after a certain amount of time, anyone caught outside that zone faces continuous danger until they are killed or they reach the safe zone.

There are three different versions of the game: Fortnite: Save the World, Fortnite Battle Royale, and Fortnite Creative. Of these, Battle Royale is by far the most successful. Due to its worldwide success, the franchise has inspired hundreds of memes and viral internet videos.
