The Return Of The Slayer

Developed by Id Software, the original Doom video game was released in 1993. A pioneer of the FPS genre, the game puts players in the shoes of an anonymous space marine — called the Doomguy by fans — working under the supervision of the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) as he attempts to stave off an apocalypse-level event. While navigating several 3D levels on Mars and its orbiting moons, the marine is faced with an army composed of demons and the undead, all of which have spawned from the depths of Hell. To defeat these bloodthirsty creatures, players must take advantage of all the weapons that are available to them.

In 1994, a second instalment in the franchise made its debut: Hell On Earth. Technically, the sequel underwent few substantial improvements; however, it introduced a myriad of new enemy types and revitalised its level design. This was further supplemented by Master Levels For Doom II (1995), an expansion that added another 20 levels.

After a number of sequels and spin-offs, the franchise received a full reboot in 2016. Published by Bethesda Softworks, this modern iteration features the return of the faceless marine from the first game, who is now referred to as the Slayer. Players guide the Slayer through a multitude of violent encounters with enemies both new and familiar (such as the Revenant, Pinky, Mancubus, and Cyberdemon), navigating the terrains of Mars and Hell with speed and brutality.
