The Original..The Best
Originally intended as a t.v pilot Battlestar Galactica was hence released as major motion picture which then went on to become a unfortunate one season thanks to Universal pulling the plug and finance t.v series but at the time it was one of the most watched shows on weekly television. This fully restored version is the extended cut now transfered into glorious 16.9 widescreen with many of the old matte lines removed yet some still remain, under the supervision of effects legend John Dysktra other such young soon to become legends in the effects world also lended a hand such as Dennis Muren and other such you will notice as the credits roll at the end of the film. The sound format shows as 2.1 with surround however from playing the film it seems to only play in 5.1 DTS HD Master however there is no seperation between channels and as much as it would be glorious to hear the film as it was originally shown in theatres with seats shaking due to the short lived sensurround the 5.1 is worthy enough. Between 1977 and 1979 sci fi fans were treated to Star Wars,Battlestar Galactica nd Star Trek The Motion Picture and what a glorious time it was...this was an age pre CGI and the love and attention that went into bringing thse big scale sci fi epics to the big screen can clearly be seen here. Highly recommended for those of us who remember a time when film makers took us to other worlds and beyond
